11/20/2013 Bangor Borough Council has authorized the creation of a CRS Committee. CRS is a Community Rating System under the National Flood Insurance Program. By participating in the program as a rated community, we hope to reduce floodplain insurance costs for affected property owners. If you would like to become a member of the CRS committee please contact Rick Fisher, CRS Coordinator, at the Borough Office.
11/20/2013 On Saturday, November 30th, Santa Clause will be available for pictures at Merchants Bank on Broadway from 10am-noon. At 6pm the Christmas Tree will be lit and carols will be sung at Founders Park on Broadway. After the lighting there will be refreshments served next door at The Hub. Bring the family downtown and kick off the Christmas Season!
11/18/2013 The Friends of the Bangor Public Library will be hosting “Breakfast with Santa” on Saturday, December 7th at the East Bangor Fire Department. The event will run from 9am-noon and will include pancakes, sausage, fruit, and baked goods. Santa will visit with children during breakfast, read stories and will be available for photos. There will also be small crafts, a fun Christmas “photo booth,” and more! Tickets are available at the door or can be purchased in advance at the Bangor Public Library (Adults = $5; Children over the age of 2 = $3; Children 2 years old and younger are FREE). 10/31/2013 The Borough Staff has begun working on the 2014 Borough Budget. The budget seeks to include the following: 1) A real estate tax millage decrease of one-half mil. 2) Changing the Code Enforcement Officer from a part-time to full-time position. 3) Funding for storm water projects to alleviate flooding. 4) Seeking a full-time Chief of Police. 5) Adopting a Capital Budget.

10/08/2013 On October 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. the Bangor Police and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public an opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs. Bring your medications for disposal to Bangor Police Station at 30 N 1st St, Bangor PA 18013. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

Under the “Borough Council” page you can now find the agenda for the upcoming Borough Council meeting (usually posted a week ahead of the meeting date), a listing of the streets that will be repaired/replaced, and a listing of County, State, and Federal Grants that Borough Council has applied for or has been awarded.

07/09/13 Bangor Police Department is proud to announce another victory in their effort against drug operations in Bangor. Bangor PD, with Washington Township PD and Northampton County’s Drug Task Force, seized 480 packets of Heroin and arrested 4 suspects outside the Valero gas Station on Rte 191. 07/09/13 Bangor Police Department Announcement: The Bangor Borough Police Department has been chosen by PennDOT to be a distribution point for the Yellow Dot Program. This free program helps save lives by quickly providing emergency responders vital information. According to PennDOT: “Pennsylvania’s Yellow Dot Program was created to assist citizens in the “golden hour” of emergency care following a traffic accident when they may not be able to communicate their needs themselves.
