FAQ : When is a Permit Required for a Swimming Pool?
Bangor Borough has required permits for swimming pools since our ordinance was adopted in 1967.
The Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code adopted standards for swimming pools in 2005.
Zoning and Building permits are required for swimming pools, regardless of their type of construction.
If you purchase a swimming pool that has a water depth of 24 inches or greater, you must obtain
the required permits prior to installing your swimming pool.
SWIMMING POOL. Any structure intended for swimming or recreational bathing that contains water over 24 inches (610 mm). This includes in-ground,above-ground and on-ground swimming pools, hot tubs and spas.(IRC of 2009, Appendix G)
