While we just held the Bangor Borough Electronics Recycling event in June, the remaining 2020 county-wide collection events are canceled.
In order for current PA DEP event approval, county-wide collection events are required to implement a pre-registration plan, assigning appointment times to each attendee. Including staff, employees, volunteers police/fire police, and attendees, no more than 250 people can be on-site at any given time. This requirement is in effect now.
Incorporating a notification and tracking system for non-computer/email address attendees, with an online submission form will not be immediate. However, once a pre-registration plan is established and has been approved by PA DEP, announcements will be made and information will be posted on the County’s website, along with instructions and event schedules.
In the meantime, current options for electronics disposal:
Electronics Drop-off locations (residents and businesses):
• DRC Technologies, 2005 Main St., Northampton 18067, 610-502-0854
• Clean Earth, 2330 SW 26th St., Allentown 18103, 866-447-5177
• GER Solutions, 795 Roble Rd. Allentown 18109, 610-443-1776
As always, fees may apply for recycling some electronics. Appointments may be required to drop-off. Residents needing assistance to unload from their vehicles need to call in advance.
If more resources are needed, it is encouraged for municipalities to consider hosting municipal-only, or a joint collection event for their residents. Pre-registration plans are not required for municipal events, though COVID guidelines (www.health.pa.gov/topics/disease/coronavirus/Pages/Coronavirus.aspx) must be followed.
• Clean Earth; and
• RRS (Responsible Recycling Solutions)
are two reputable and permitted vendors that can be contacted to collect and transport e-waste from a collection event. Some of our municipalities are already providing these events to their residents, if you are interested in hearing more, I can put you in contact with one of these municipalities, or you can contact me for more information and/or assistance.
Paper Shredding Options:
• The City of Bethlehem’s paper shredding services are currently unavailable. When this service resumes, residents and businesses can make appointments for free paper shredding. More information can be found here: www.bethlehem-pa.gov/Community-Economic-Development/Recycling/Free-Shredding-Services
• Residents can contact their bank or credit union for any available or upcoming shredding opportunities
• UPS and Staples stores offer secure shredding services, fees may apply.
